It is well known, the weekend the closest from August 1st is the one with the more traffic jams on French roads because of so called "chassé-croisé" between the ones who are coming back from July holidays and the one going to holidays for August.
But, when August 1st is on a saturday, this becomes the ideal scenario for a chaotic day on the highways.
That's the reason why "bison futé" has classified Saturday BLACK for all the France.
Given those catastrophic forecasts, you can be sure people will try leaving earlier or later to avoid driving on Saturday. As a consequence, the traffic will be heavy on Friday and Sunday as well in both ways (departures and arrivals)
As for the first week of July, please find the webcams on road axis and highways where the traffic jams will be the most important and the most reccurent for departures.
